Water Lily Maintenance / Removal

Unchecked water lilies, despite their ornamental charm, can pose significant challenges for your pond or lake. Their rapid growth and proliferation create a multitude of issues that can negatively impact your water body.

First and foremost, excessive water lilies can substantially affect water quality. They form dense mats on the water's surface, limiting sunlight penetration. This reduces oxygen levels and fosters algae growth, leading to a deterioration in water quality, which can render the environment less hospitable for fish and other aquatic life. Furthermore, the dense cover they create disrupts the natural habitat for various aquatic species, such as fish, amphibians, and insects, as they lose access to the water's surface for essential activities like feeding, breeding, and basking. Lastly, the overabundance of water lilies can lead to an aesthetic decline in your water feature. While a few lilies can enhance its beauty, too many can obscure the water's surface, giving it a neglected and unattractive appearance.

Water lilies can grow in any shallow body of water, they are often a common feature in lakes and ponds across the UK. Due to their prolific growth, water lilies can be both a pretty and an invasive addition to your watercourse.

Water Lillies In Pond

The water lily is an aquatic plant that produces beautiful flowers and large oval leaves, they have floating roots and stems that are able to grow up to three feet in length.

Water lilies have a rhizomatous growth habit, which means they spread and reproduce through underground horizontal stems called rhizomes. These rhizomes grow just below the surface of the mud or sediment at the bottom of the water body.

The primary function of the water lilies root system is to anchor the plant securely to the bottom of the water body. The roots penetrate the substrate, providing stability against water movement and preventing the plant from being washed away by currents.

Our professional approach to water lily removal, using our Truxor machine, is comprehensive and tailored to your specific needs. It typically begins with an assessment of the extent of the water lily problem, considering factors such as the lily species and the size of the water body. This assessment guides the development of a customised removal plan that minimises disturbance to the existing aquatic life and the overall ecosystem

The Truxor machine is designed to have enough power to remove the rhizome system while still protecting the bed and also the surrounding banks.
